A Word About
White Miniature Schnauzers
Here at Greystoke Miniature Schnauzers, we
only breed dogs carrying the four FCI approved colors of Salt/Pepper,
Black, Black/Silver, and White. Our breeding program involves a few
outstanding individuals and we are dedicated to promoting and improving
the quality of the White Miniature Schnauzer in America. The white schnauzer can be
registered thru AKC but they are not allowed to compete in their
conformation ring, however, they can be shown in the US thru International
shows. Hopefully they will someday take their rightful place in the
AKC conformation show ring. The American and Canadian breed standard both say that white
is a disqualifying fault, but they are in the minority. Most other
countries allow the color white to be shown.
The Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) abides by the breed
standards set forth by the countries of breed origins. Germany is the country of origin of
the Miniature Schnauzer breed, therefore, the German breed standard is the
recognized standard worldwide by which the Miniature Schnauzer is to be
judged. Although the AKC and CKC are recognized worldwide, the
American Miniature Schnauzer Club and the Canadian Miniature Schnauzer
Clubs decided to establish their own criteria for judging the Miniature
Schnauzer which doesn't recognize the White Miniature Schnauzer. The AMSC and CMSC believe their
standards are better than the standard set forth by Germany's Pinscher
Schnauzer Klub (PSK), the original parent breed club, which
includes the White Miniature Schnauzer as an acceptable color.

Beware of anyone who suggests that the
white mini schnauzer is "rare" or in anyway more "valuable".
They are no more valuable than any other color. The gene that
produces white is a recessive gene, pure and simple. It is not rare
and can and has been produced from s/p, blacks, and b/s. Also,
health problems are not specifically related to color. Whites have
the same health problems that the other colors do.
Also, don't be fooled by anyone suggesting
that the white is not a purebred schnauzer or that the color was
"reintroduced" thru another breed. This simply is not true. The
Genotype for the White Miniature Schnauzer has recently been proven thru
DNA tests!
